“The Nature Conservancy urges a No Vote on Prop I to protect the city’s essential wastewater infrastructure and protect residents from climate change and the unnecessary waste of their taxpayer dollars.”
— Mike Sweeney
Executive Director, The Nature Conservancy, California
Changes to the Great Highway required by PROPOSITION I put Ocean Beach at risk of a major sewage catastrophe.
Proposition I blocks the City’s plan to close a short section of the Great Highway to protect the Oceanside Wastewater Treatment Plant at Ocean Beach from coastal erosion and threats to its sewage infrastructure. If that infrastructure fails, Ocean Beach is at risk of a major sewage spill.
Proposition I forces the City to overturn the Ocean Beach Climate Change Adaptation Project, a multi-agency plan developed over the past 10 years.
Proposition I puts San Francisco taxpayers on the hook for at least $80 million to develop a new climate plan to stop the coastal erosion and protect the wastewater treatment plan.
